Summary
You can get an installment loan in Prince Edward Island with bad credit. Through CashGo, you apply once and get matched with lenders in our network that typically offer $300 to $3,000, repaid over 90 to 120 days at 22% to 32% APR. PEI's Consumer Protection Act requires lenders to disclose the cost of a loan as an annual percentage rate and doesn't let them charge you for paying it off early. A PEI payday loan can cost up to $14 for every $100 borrowed: on $500, that's $70 due on your next payday, compared with about $25 spread over seven payments for a typical installment loan.
How installment loans work in Prince Edward Island
An installment loan is a personal loan you repay in equal, scheduled payments that line up with your pay, whether you're paid weekly, every two weeks, twice a month or monthly. Each payment covers part of what you borrowed plus interest.
You apply once online, from anywhere in Prince Edward Island. CashGo sends your application to lenders in our network. A lender that can help contacts you and asks you to complete Instant Banking Verification, a read-only look at your recent transactions; you don't need to send ID or paperwork. The lender then shows you the rate, every fee and the total you'll repay, and deposits the money once you sign its contract, often the same day.
CashGo is not a lender. Each lender sets its own rate, fees and schedule.
PEI's rules for installment loans
PEI doesn't have a separate licensing system for high-cost installment lenders, as BC and Manitoba do. Installment loans fall under the Consumer Protection Act, which gives you these rights:
- The lender must disclose the cost of borrowing as an annual percentage rate, in a separate statement.
- If you repay the loan before its due date, the lender can't charge you a fee or penalty.
The federal limit of 35% APR, including fees, applies to every installment loan.
Payday loan rules in PEI
- A payday loan can't cost more than $14 for every $100 advanced. These rules cover loans of $1,500 or less for 62 days or less.
- You can cancel within two business days, without giving a reason.
- A lender can't extend a payday loan, or give you a new one until seven days after you've paid off the last one.
- You can repay the full balance at any time without a penalty, and the lender can't take an assignment of your wages.
- If a lender breaks certain rules, you only have to repay the amount you borrowed, not the cost of borrowing, and you can ask for a refund of illegal charges within a year.
- Every payday lender must be licensed, and every agreement must warn that a payday loan may cost much more than borrowing elsewhere.
